The 4Cs are the standard system developed by the GIA for evaluating a diamond’s quality.
- Colour: measures the whiteness of a diamond, from D (perfectly white) to Z (slightly tinted).
- Clarity: assesses the presence of inclusions, ranging from FL (flawless) to I3 (inclusions visible to the naked eye).
- Cut: determines a diamond’s ability to capture and reflect light.
- Carat: refers to the weight of the diamond; 1 carat is equivalent to 0.20 grams.
None of the 4Cs is more important than the others. When selecting its diamonds, Chaumet favours stones graded D to G in colour, FL to VS in clarity and Excellent to Very Good in cut.
In addition to these criteria, there is a fifth criterion unique to Chaumet: Harmony, which captures the unique emotion evoked by each diamond.
